Item Description
15-3/8x22.5" thin artboard w/India ink original art by Harold Knerr, who took over the strip from creator Rudolph Dirks. Art is for Oct. 2, 1938 and features total of nine panels and shows Hans and Fritz after a day of successful fishing. Seeing The Captain approaching, they decide to play a prank, tying the ends of the fishing line together, making a large loop of fish around the dock and into the water. The Captain sees the fish and decides to pull them up. This goes on and on until Rollo and Lena spot the hijinks and tie a lasso to Hans and Fritz (who are hiding under the dock), w/The Captain pulling them up and the pair getting in trouble, much to Rollo and Lena's delight. Knerr has signed second to last panel, which also has Int'l Features Syndicate, Inc. copyright strip. Blue penciled date at upper right w/printer centering labels at lower left/right. Pin holes at top corners and artboard has some scattered handling wear/aging, but art remains clean and Exc. overall.
