Item Description
Pair of illustrated cardboard boxes contain die-cast metal and plastic toys made in Japan for the Japanese market by Popy, 1977. Both toys are based on the "Jetter Mars" anime series directed by Rintaro and written by Osamu Tezuka, who originally planned the series as an anime remake of his popular manga series "Astro Boy," unfavorable circumstances during pre-production led him to abandon it temporarily and create "Jetter Mars" instead. Although it remains as one of Tezuka's lesser known works, it has gained a large cult following and is fondly remembered. Original box w/Styrofoam insert contains 5-3/8" long "Rocket" ship w/small plastic and removable Jetter Mars figure in opening cockpit (which ejects when rocket's nose is pressed). Box shows some scattered wear and is Fine/VF. Toy is complete w/illustrated instruction sheet, unused decal sheet and factory-sealed bag of plastic missiles. Toy is NM. Original cardboard box contains 4.5" tall mostly die-cast figure w/spring loaded firing plastic fists and plastic cape. Figure comes w/illustrated instruction booklet and advertising booklet as well as factory sealed bag containing extra set of fists. Box has heavy aging/dust soiling to one panel and shows moderate wear. Good/VG. Figure is Exc.
