Item Description
Pair of 17-5/8x24.5" Strathmore artboards feature pen and ink original art w/inkwash and screentone shading by Joe Orlando (1927-1998), an illustrator, writer, editor and cartoonist w/a lengthy career spanning six decades. He was the associate publisher of Mad and the vice president of DC Comics, where he edited numerous titles and ran DC's Special Projects department. Art offered here was published in "MAD" Magazine #48, published in July 1959. First artboard features four panels w/bandleaders/orators explaining the economy w/examples including Jack Benny, Ed Sullivan and Steve Allen, Dick Clark, Richard Nixon (w/dog), Fidel Castro. Each personality works his way into the bandleader/orator's speeches, all of which is paste-over text. Both artboards have scattered editorial notations at top and along margins w/first artboard having large green grease pencil notation at top center. This artboard also has two spots of tape staining above art. Artboard is Fine overall, but art remains clean and Exc. Second artboard has Nixon and Castro images covered w/spots of staining 1/8" to .25" in dia. Bottom left corner has some dust soiling. Fine overall.
