Item Description
17-5/8x24.5" Craftint artboard has pen and ink w/inkwash original art by Joe Orlando (1927-1998), an illustrator, writer, editor and cartoonist w/a lengthy career spanning six decades. He was the associate publisher of "MAD" Magazine and the vice president of DC Comics, where he edited numerous titles and ran DC's Special Projects department. Art offered here was published in "MAD" Magazine #70 (April 1962) and it titled "Nuclear Jitters." Artboard features eight panels, showing man reacting w/shock to newspaper headline about "50 Megaton Bomb!" which causes him to panic and begin building bomb shelter. He quickly digs the foundation, laying bricks, roofs, reburies shelter, paints "No Trespassing" sign only for reporter to show up in second to last panel and take a picture of him, the shock causing him to have a heart attack and die. Top margin features large handwritten magazine title/issue number and story title in red marker. Margins have some handling wear/aging and screentone has evenly aged but art remains clean and Exc. Comes w/reading copy of the issue this art was published in.
