Item Description
4.75x4.75x6-5/8" tall painted cast iron bank depicting house w/swinging front door w/"Novelty Bank" raised text. Made by J. & E. Stevens Co. of Cromwell, CT, bank has a pair of 1872, 1873 patent dates on reverse. Bank came in several color varieties, this one is red, white and blue. Mechanical function is as follows - door opens to expose three-dimensional cast iron man holding tray. Coin is placed on tray and door w/spring mechanism pulls the door shut to deposit the coin. Bank has original trap. Scattered wear and aging w/about 90%  or paint remaining, although somewhat darkened w/age. Bank is missing wire that attaches to inside of door and to man inside and pulls him forward to receive coin when door is opened along w/small spring that goes under him to cause door to shut. These are minor things to be replaced and we recommend a  professional toy repair company - Tin Toy Works of Allentown, PA - to provided replacement if desired. Bank is Fine/VF overall.
