Item Description
11.5x14.5" thin artboard has original pen and ink art for single panel cartoon by Hank Ketchum. Art has been hand-watercolored and shows man attempting to entrance his date into ordering the cheaper "Vegetable Platter" w/handwritten "You Would Like The Vegetable Platter At Eighty-Five Cents! You Would Like The Vegetable Platter At Eighty-Five Cents! You Would Like......." text caption at bottom. Art has been inscribed to fellow artist Reamer Keller at upper left, reading "With Sincere Best Wishes To Killer Keller From Hank The Crank" and has been dated "4-18-50." Ketchum began "Dennis The Menace" less than a year later on March 12, 1951. Cartoon was likely drawn for "The Saturday Evening Post," but is not marked as such. Ketchum has signed art at lower left. Reverse has Ketchum's ink stamp and some handwritten notes. Pinholes at top corners, w/streak of moisture staining at top left margin. Moderate scattered dust soiling and some handling wear, but art area remains clean and would display nicely if matted and framed.
