Item Description
Lot of 27 hardcovers, each 8.75x11.25". These bound volumes collect the entire bedsheet series of pulp magazines published by Experimenter Publishing, Inc. and Teck Publications, Inc. from April 1926 to Aug. 1933; 89 issues in total. It was the Aug. 1928 issue that saw the "Armageddon 2419" story by Francis Nowlan debut legendary sci-fi figure Buck Rogers to the masses (the character's first appearance in any format). Several covers were provided by noted Burroughs illustrator J. Allen St. John w/some cover themes of note (not all by St. John) including - dinosaurs vs. submarine, robots, giant octopus, insects vs. dinosaurs, skeletons, bondage, animal attacks, women in peril, jungle men, space men, etc. The March 1929 issue features first Buck Rogers cover. Other notable features include - "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" by Jules Verne, "The Land That Time Forgot" by Edgar Rice Burroughs, "War Of The Worlds" cover, "The Color Of Outer Space" by H.P. Lovecraft, "John Carter And The Giant Of Mars, The City Of Mummies" and several other stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, "I, Rocket" by Ray Bradbury as well as other Bradbury stories and entries from authors including Jules Verne, Curt Siodmak (writer of Universal's "The Wolf Man"), "Psycho" author Robert Bloch and many others. Notable first publications include those of Mile J. Breuer, Bob Olsen, David H. Keller, Fletcher Pratt, Harl Vincent, E.E. "Doc" Smith, John W. Campbell, Eando Binder, Howard Fast and John Russell Fearn. Hardcovers show scattered wear, some w/more moderate wear at top/bottom of spines and scattered corner tip wear. Bound volumes are Fine-VF overall. Several issues have edge tears/chipping w/tape repairs to covers. Some issues were bound w/o back covers. Contents are VG/Fine overall w/pages aged to lt. cream to tan in color. Pages are Fine/VF overall. One of the all time great sci-fi pulp titles and a rare opportunity to get a run of the classic first years all at one time.
