Item Description
14x18-3/8" thin artboard has pen and ink original art w/screentone shading accents by Wally Wood for his c. 1978 graphic novel "The Wizard King Trilogy," the story of the Immi, a medieval society of elves, who live happily deep in the forest completely isolated from the rest of the world. That is until a strange shadow falls over their village. A young Immi named Odkin is tricked into volunteering to investigate and is drawn into the intrigues of Alacazar the wizard to save the world from Anark. Art is for page six and features six panels, showing Odkin and his lizard-like companion Weer in winged flying Sky Boat. They fly through the fog until they spot an island in second panel. Third and forth panel show enormous bees arriving and attacking, one carrying Weer off in fifth panel. Last panel shows wing of Sky Boat breaking off, causing Odkin to fall. All art by Wood, recognized for his work at EC Comics w/"MAD" and sci-fi titles, Topps' series of "Mars Attacks" gum cards as well as his work on "Daredevil" for Marvel Comics. Some of Wood's preliminary blue pencil art is visible and upper right margin has editorial notation. Artboard has some lt. aging to screentone, but art is o/w clean and VF.
