Item Description
5.5x8-3/8" greeting card features slightly modified cover art from "Superman" #17 (July 1942) by Fred Ray and dates to Christmas, 1942. Art showcases Superman lifting Hitler and Tojo by their collars. Cloud art has been altered and stars added. Globe Superman stands on and sky have had their colors switched from how cover art was originally printed. Word balloon reading "Sa-a-a-y! Hasn't Anyone Ever Told You Fellows About 'Peace On Earth, Good Will Toward Men'?!?" has also been added. Foreground has "Season's Greetings" text and holly image. Right edge is rough as printed and interior of card is blank. Card has handwritten blue pencil note that reads "H'Lo Fred! Thanx Fer The Swell Drawing...There (sic) Terrific! Case I Don't See Ya - Have A Nice Time!" and has been signed, but we are unsure by who. Card is almost certainly to comic artist Fred Ray and it appears he has added handwritten pencil note at bottom, reading "How D'Ya Like The Classy Card? D'Ja Like The Drawing?" Card has some lt. aging w/two tiny spots of staining at top center of front, one at edge of word balloon while other is in margin. Minor spot of aging on back edge of card. Rest of card remains clean and VF. Very rare promotional card that saw limited distribution, this is one of just two known examples. Franco Toscanini Collection.
