Item Description
Pair of 28x40" unnumbered/unsigned press proofs for limited edition full color prints featuring art by famous Golden Age Batman artist Dick Sprang. Impressive and w/amazing details, Sprang provides a detailed map of Batman's base of operations - the Batcave. Batman, Robin and Alfred are pictured at lower right. Cave includes various computer areas, two Batmobiles, Batplane, Batcopter, Batman's Whirly-Bat, Batboat, Batosphere and Batsub. Also included are trophy statues of villains The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman and The Penguin. Displays on walls include Batarangs and portraits of Commissioner Gordon and Barbara Gordon. Batcave icons - giant penny and dinosaur model are also included. Of interesting note, Sprang has plaque noting "Bill Finger Memorial Library." Finger is often forgotten for his role in Batman's history - credited w/co-creating Batman w/Bob Kane and Batman's archnemesis The Joker w/Kane and Jerry Robinson. These lithographs were produced by Gotham Graphics (©1995 DC Comics) in two editions - Silver (edition of 500) and in the much more limited Gold (edition of 175). These proofs are for both editions and were produced to approve color and registration at press. Both are untrimmed and have been rolled. Scattered edge wear, but both would frame for an Exc. appearance.
