11.25x17" DC Comics Sparta artboard has pen and ink original art by Kurt Schaffenberger (1920-2002) for cover to Superboy Vol. 2 #29, published by DC Comics May 1982. Cover features Superboy flying to the rescue of man strapped to large Superboy statue at the front of a Superboy park. The large statue portion of the cover is a pasted stat, however, the man attached to the front of the statue (and the "S" chest symbol behind him) is all original art, as is the smaller, flying Superboy image, the crowd and approximately half of the building that features Superboy's "S" chest symbol. Superboy's thought balloons are pasted stats. Inset "Dial 'H' For Hero" panel is also all original art and shows Hero Dial users Vicki Grant and Chris King as the heroes Tar-Man and Miss Hourglass respectively. Title/logo and publishing indicia are pasted stats. Top margin has inked title, issue number and month of publication and bottom margin has some handwritten size notations. Schaffenberger has signed at lower left of art, but this has been covered by stat of Schaffenberger's signature to right of barcode box. Schaffenberger has signed in black ink on "The New Adventures Of" title stat. Back has DC Comics copyright inkstamp. Artboard has a number of staple/pinholes along left/right margins and back of artboard has a few pieces of clear tape along right edge, but these do not affect front's display. Art remains clean and Exc. Great cover by an artist with a long association with the Superman Family of comic book titles. Comes w/multi-signed reading copy of the comic this art was produced for, signed on first page by Schaffenberger and on first page of Dial 'H' For Hero story by artist Howard Bender. Lawrence Klein Collection.
