Item Description
17.5x22.75". c. 1968. A bold and stark depiction of a black guerrilla fighter, AK-47 in hand, with eyes fixed in the distance. Kathleen Cleaver fondly recalled this poster in her essay "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words" found in Emory's book "Black Panther The Revolutionary Art Of Douglas Emory". On page 57 she writes "Eldrige And I Framed That Poster And Hung It Above Our Living-room Sofa In The Center Of The Wall." The Che quote is the last sentence from his message to the Tri-Continental Conference and reads "Wherever Death May Surprise Us, Let It Be Welcome, Provided That This, Our Battle Cry, May Have Reached Some Receptive Ear And Another Hand May Be Extended To Wield Our Weapons And Other Men Be Ready To Intone The Funeral Dirge With The Staccato Singing Of The Machine-guns And New Battle Cries Of War And Victory". Pin holes at top two corners otherwise Exc./NM. Rare. Milo Pyne Collection.
