Item Description
14x17" sheet of vellum has original graphite and marker art showing preliminary design for a DC Direct bookend/statue set produced in 2007. The bookends were sculpted by Andy Bergholtz based on the designs provided here by noted comic artist Steve Rude, whose distinct style was utilized by DC Comics on their 1990 re-launch of popular Superman and Batman team-up comic "World's Finest." Rude's highly-detailed design was painstakingly reproduced for the finished product and features Superman (standing on base shaped like his "S" symbol) leaning against book while Batman (standing on base shaped like a batsymbol) leans against book from other side. Rude has lettered each character's name and added DC symbol to book, signing "Artist - S. Rude 7-'06" at bottom center. Exc. Franco Toscanini Collection.
