Item Description
In our Nov. 2012 auction, we offered a totally different pair of Old King Cole Mickey and Minnie Mouse displays which sold for $18,808. Those displays featured Mickey in red pants w/white buttons and had mechanical waving hand feature while Minnie was depicted in white skirt w/red polka dots and had mechanical pivoting feature at waist. Mickey also included green bkg. and Minnie had white bkg. Offered here is a totally different pair of painted composition displays (as detailed below). These are amazing in every way - in size, design, rarity and condition. Each is two-dimensional w/original wood bracing/framework attached to reverse. Motors and electric cords have been professionally replaced w/modern devices and hardware and mechanical features function well. Mickey is 30x40.75" while Minnie is 28.75x42". c. 1935 by Old King Cole Inc., the premiere manufacturer of Disney store displays (see display catalog w/Old King Cole content, #1910). Attached to the reverse of each is original 2.5" dia. Kay Kamen "seal" sticker. Mickey's sticker shows moderate wear w/about 50% remaining while Minnie's sticker remains nearly 100% intact. Lower left of each display is also marked "© By Special Permission Of Walt Disney Enterprises." Mickey is depicted wearing red pants w/blue buttons, his outstretched arm moves up and down while Minnie holds mirror in outstretched hand, her other arm is separate piece that moves up and down. Mickey display has no bkg. as produced while Minnie display features lt. blue bkg. at base. Each has scattered areas of crazing w/some small scattered paint flakes, all minor and in no way distracting. This includes 4" area of moderate crazing to top of one of Mickey's shoes and 1.5" hairline crack on edge of Minnie's skirt. Despite minor issues, both displays remain very clean and display VF. Large and impressive display pair, certain to become the centerpiece of any Disney collection. Among the most striking Mickey and Minnie Mouse displays we have offered in our 48 years. All Old King Cole Disney displays are rare and desirable. From the Doug & Pat Wengel Collection.
