Item Description
Lot of 20 sequential 10x12" sheets of animation paper w/original lead pencil (w/some additional colored pencil accents/coloring) art from "Rite Of Spring" sequence from Disney's 1940 animated musical feature film "Fantasia." Accompanied by Igor Stravinsky's music, this sequence featured a visual history of the Earth's beginnings set to selected sections of the "Rite Of Spring" ballet score. The sequence progresses from the planet's formation to the first living creatures, followed by the reign and extinction of the dinosaurs. First 13 sheets feature full/near full body images of flying Pteranodon swooping down to catch fish. Image sizes range from .25x1" to 4.5x6.5". The last sheet featuring the Pteranodon by itself has small watery shadow at bottom left which is revealed to be a lurking Mosasaurus on the next sheet in the sequence. Sheets following show the Mosasaurus attacking the Pteranodon, lunging up and biting its head. Largest image measures 8x11" and shows Mosasaurus w/Pteranodon in its mouth, one flipper up and clear of the water. Sheets are sequentially numbered at bottom right, C-3, C-9, C-15, C-21, C-27, C-33, C-51, C-57, C-63, C-69, C-75, C-77, C-87, C-93, C-96, C-100, C-103, C-115, C-121 and C-127. Some sheets have extensive production notations in lead/colored pencil and one sheet shows Pteranodon colored as it would appear in the finished animated sequence. Sheets are lightly aged and have some scattered handling wear but for the most part, art areas remain Exc. Great, action-packed sequence from this classic animated musical film.
