Item Description
22x22" wood frame w/Plexiglas over triple archival mat reveals 12.5x13" image area in India ink and watercolor created by Jack Davis for Verve record #V-15042, recorded in Nov., 1963, which was released in early 1964. Engraved brass title plate underneath art read "Jack Davis - 'Have Some Nuts'." Falling crowd resembles newsmakers of the day including Marilyn Monroe holding "Brand X" pill bottle, Fidel Castro w/machine gun and pistol, robed "KKK" Clansman, sheriff Bull Connor w/police dog wearing swastika, racist Lester Maddox holding "Right Wing" and American flags, Jimmy Hoffa wearing union button and falling on "Strike" sign, gangster wearing pistol and holding guitar case w/prison labels and rifle inside, surgeon Christiaan Barnard, John Zacherly holding tombstone, Shriner w/All Seeing Eye on vestment. Art has been signed in ink by Davis near bottom center. Comes w/4x6" color photo of the artist holding this original in his studio and actual album in Fine condition w/photo of Meader pouring out can of mixed nuts, this art spilling out. Back cover lists 12 tracks. Comedian Meader was noted for his impressions of President Kennedy, including two best-selling albums, but his career virtually came to an end w/Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. This album was a non-Kennedy satire of current events. Artboard has trace of edge wear, image area is bright and Exc. Superb example of Jack Davis' caricature abilities. Framed and ready for display.
