Item Description
Lot of 16 items featuring pin-up art by Gil Elvgren, one of the most important pin-up artists of the 20th century. Today he is best known for his pin-up paintings for Brown & Bigelow, of which many of the items in this lot were published by. Lot includes three miniature 1-7/8x3.5" note pads issued in 1948 w/different pin-up images but all w/same gas station imprint. Slight staple oxidation, but VF overall. Lot also includes 11 ink blotters, each 3-7/8x9" and issued 1953-1955. All were issued w/same imprint for Alliance, OH. Dalton Chemical Company. All feature different pin-ups and are unused though some show some scattered handling wear/aging. VF-Exc. "52 American Beauties" boxed playing card deck includes 52 cards, w/a variety of pin-up images and two Jokers (one w/themed pin-up). Box shows obvious wear w/both inner flaps missing and is just Good, but cards are NM. Last item is 7.5x9.5" spiral bound "Happy Holiday" 1963 calendar w/each month having different pin-up. Some wear at top left of spiral binding and cover sheet is aged. Interior has some inking to calendar pages but images remain clean and VF/Exc. Nice lot showcasing Elvgren's popularity from the 1940s up to the 1960s.
