Item Description
12x17" thin DC Comics artboard has original pen and ink art for cover to Jan., 1997 special "Batman: Blackgate." Cover features great full body image of Batman running down the halls of Blackgate Prison, prisoners' arms reaching out of the cell doors and floors towards him. The hallway's intricate ceiling is seen above. Story was written by Chuck Dixon w/art by popular and long-running "Batman" artist Scott McDaniel, who has worked w/both DC and Marvel Comics, working on "Daredevil" for Marvel (see items #1813-1814). Inks were provided by James Hodgkins. Handwritten title at top along w/handwritten editor/artist/inker notations in black felt tip pen. Upper right has artist initials. Batman's cape has been boldly signed in blue felt tip pen by McDaniel, who has also signed back of artboard in black felt tip pen. Left/right/bottom margins have aged tape strips, but art remains Exc. Great Batman comic book cover art by a long-running "Batman" artist.
