Item Description
Lot consists of complete amount of 121 6.25x7.5" thin artboards w/original pen and ink art for Whitman Big Little Book No. 2017, ©1968 National Periodical Publications, Inc. These 121 artboards make up the entirety of art created for this publication. Each has "5-1/4" x 6-1/2" Print Area - Caption Below Line" text at top w/captions below as they appeared in the book. Of the 121 artboards, Aquaman appears on 53, Mera appears on 49, Aqualad appears on 33 and Topo the octopus appears on 3 artboards. Included are two scenes showing the trio riding giant seahorses. Backs have blank area for additional art, but these remain unused for the most part. A few have partial paste-overs including a full body Aquaman paste-over and one of his leg in a different position. There are also 2x3.25" and 2x4" aged paste-overs w/some staining. Rest are bright, clean and Exc. overall. Art comes w/complete typed script for the book, which shows scattered wear w/aging and some staining here and there. Fine overall. Last item that completes the lot is 12.25x17.5" thin artboard w/9.5x14.5" mixed media image area depicting back and front cover of this BLB w/front cover image at right. Art comes w/acetate sheet overlay which has book title twice; large main title and smaller title above small Aquaman portrait image. Artboard has vertical crease to left of main art and slight ripple as painted and margins have some tape staining. These could be easily matted out for an Exc. display. Great complete art for this book featuring DC Comics' King of the Seven Seas. Comes w/worn reading copy of the actual book.
