Item Description
c. early 1900s. Archival mat has Rembrandt illustration board w/19x27.75” image area in India ink, watercolor and pencil featuring both Victor and his cartoonist brother Bernard in various scenes. Includes large figure wearing a “Mercury” sash pointing at framed scene of bobsledders, holding golf bag and balls near travel gear, skiing, trooper on horseback leaping over First Edition books, “Touring the Continent” in early motor car. Title scroll at top includes hand inked titles “St. Moritz Bob-Sleigh Club, Princeton Club, Essex County Country Club, Glen Ridge Country Club, Spring Lake Golf Club, Essex Troop First Squadron of the National Guard New Jersey”. Signed in ink “Gillam” at lower right. Image area has trace of lt. dust soil and minor color fade, otherwise Fine/VF. Superb example by a top cartoonist of the era and long time “Judge” art director.
