Item Description
19x28.75" paper poster for c. early 1900s "Sensational Western Life Drama" traveling show based on the exploits of the American outlaw, gang leader, bank/train robber, murderer and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang. Already a celebrity while alive, he became a legendary figure of the Wild West after his death, as evidenced by this show. Printed by The Donaldson Litho Co., poster has dramatic scene depicting a house on fire and armed men (including stereotypical African-American man) rescuing family from outlaws. Other scenes include stereotypical African-American "Mammy" character hitting man w/broom while in bkg. man is seen rescuing another from a noose. Poster has some margin wear w/2x3" area of moisture staining at lower left corner and scattered small nicks/chips and tears along margins. 1.5" vertical tear at top center w/tape repair on reverse. Technically VG, but margin issues could be matted out for a VF. display.
