Item Description
Pair, each is 8.5x13" and both are for the Marianao Tigers. Both have typed pertinent information, authorized team representative signatures and have also been signed in ink by the designated employee. First is dated Nov. 23, 1949 for monthly salary of 900 pesos and signed by Quincy Trouppe. Second is dated Sept. 20, 1951 for monthly salary of 1,000 pesos and signed by Adolfo Luque. Both are bold signatures. Both have traces of aging. Trouppe contract has some small missing bits of paper to top margin. Fine while Luque is VF. Trouppe was a star catcher of the Negro Leagues and made his MLB debut for the Cleveland Indians at 39 years of age in 1952. Luque was an early 20th century Cuban starting pitcher in Major League baseball. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1967. A native of Havana, Luque played winter baseball in the Cuban League from 1912 to 1945. He was also a long-time manager in the league. He was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957.
