Item Description
21.5x29-5/8" frame contains original oil painting on canvas that has been applied to Masonite board. Art was created by Gary Ruddell, an American artist best known for his cover paintings for science fiction and fantasy novels. His cover artwork for Dan Simmons's novel "Hyperion" was nominated for the 1990 Hugo Award for Best Original Artwork. Ruddell's commercial clients include Bantam Books, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Avon Books, Ace Books, Ballantine Books and Baen Books. Other commercial clients have included "Playboy," Broderbund Software, "Rolling Stone" magazine, "Magic: The Gathering" card game and the Sega Corporation. This art was created and published as a promotional poster for Bud Light beer, which has several references throughout, including a neon sign, a beer tap and Budweiser Light can in Arnold Schwarzenegger's hand as he appears in a slightly different take on his Terminator character. Other noteworthy motifs in this painting include - a Cylon from "Battlestar Galactica," the spacesuit and Space Jockey character design from the film "Alien," the Robot from "Lost In Space" (having been slightly retooled) is also featured as is Thulsa Doom's helmet from "Conan The Barbarian." There is an alien in bkg. that bears a close resemblance to John Carpenter's "The Thing" and various other alien creatures. Exc. Extremely well-down and detailed, this piece is an obvious reference to the famous Cantina scene from "Star Wars," this piece has a decidedly "Heavy Metal" feel and features nods to some of the great sci-fi and fantasy films of the 1970s and 1980s.
