Item Description
7/8" with W&H/National Equipment back paper. Front depicts sailor wearing a hat on which can be discerned "U S S Yankee." Surrounding text reads "For Congress, 14th Cong. Dist. Frank L. Warner." He was a seaman on this schooner-rigged iron ship used by the Navy that saw engagements off of Cuba. He served as a Naval surgeon and was from Columbus Ohio so most likely that is the location for the referenced "14th" district. Most likely used in a primary race as we have not found any election results. We want to thank Skip Morgan for his helpful research on this item. Some small scratches in reflected light and light general age on the reverse but piece still displays cleanly. Other than Theodore Roosevelt, the only political candidate we've seen on a button in his 1898 war uniform.
