Item Description
13.5x20-5/8" thin artboard featuring original pen and ink art by legendary comic book artist Jack "King" Kirby for the Nov. 1965 issue of "Fantastic Four" #44 published by Marvel Comics. The issue itself was written by Stan Lee w/art by Kirby and inks by Joe Sinnott. Art is for page 8 of the "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon!" storyline which introduced Gorgon of The Inhumans. While Gorgon himself is not seen on this page, he steals the Fantastic Four's helicopter and evidence of his attack is visible as Mister Fantastic's hand is smashed in the first panel. The Invisible Girl comforts Mister Fantastic in first panel (The Thing can bee seen outside window) while Thing sees the helicopter fly off in second panel. Remaining panels featuring The Human Torch (in his non-flame-on Johnny Storm persona) w/the Inhuman Medusa (an early appearance as she debuted in "Fantastic Four" #36). She holds him at gunpoint and in last panel Human Torch blasts the ground at her feet. Great action scene. Gorgon is mentioned by name in third and fifth panels. Art depicts all four members of the Fantastic Four. Top margin has stamped "Fant 4" title w/"#44" in grease pencil. Page number is written twice at upper right. Top margin has heavy horizontal crease across it, but not affecting art or margin text. Bottom margin has two 1" to 1.5" areas of faint staining and some age spotting along margin. The two spots infringe slightly upon art areas but not too distracting. Sheet has some lt. margin handling wear/aging. Page is Fine overall, while art areas remain bold, clean and VF. We are thrilled to offer this stunning piece of original art by a true comic book legend to the collecting community.
