Item Description
Lot of 8 original glossy photos, 6x8" to 8x10". All reverses have extensive publication ink stamps, publicity text sheets and/or news service imprints. Dates range from 1934 to 1951. Featured are: Ford Frick (freshly elected as President on the National League) w/Chairman of the Board (and former NL President) John Heydler and Harvey Traband, Boston Red Sox players Tom Yawkey and Eddie Collins at 1933 Baseball Conclave in suits, Will Harridge (American League President) w/Umpire George Moriarty, Cleveland Indians GM and Cal Hubbard (Triple HOF member) to arbitrate a disagreement over Moriarty's call against the White Sox, Larry MacPhail and Leo Durocher in suits, Chicago White Sox manager Jimmy Dykes yelling at Umpire Hubbard, game scene showing Giants player sliding home as Umpire Al Barlick officiates, Beaumont Texas League (NY Yankees farm team) owner Guy Airey and Yankees farm director Lee MacPhail discuss new "Roughnecks" nickname for team, Brooklyn Dodgers team president Walter O'Malley pours baseballs into the arms of Venezuelan Consul General Antonio Davila-Delgado as Dr. Pedro Zuloaga (representative for Carveceria Caracas baseball club) lends a hand. Two are from the "Sporting News" collection w/hologram sticker on back. Moderate scattered handling wear but all are clean and glossy. Overall Fine. An interesting group with some important figures in shaping baseball history and ruling over the games. All photos picture the HOF'ers very early in their careers, some may even be the earliest known image.
