Item Description
Pair. First is 3.25x5.5" Government issued postcard w/bold ink signature on the front "Willie Mays." Postmark on the back is from Brooklyn, NY for Sept. 1951 which dates this to his rookie season. Return address is that of a then 13 year old Richard Merkin (and in his hand) who sent these types of postcards to many players in hopes of obtaining their signatures. Lt. aging to card but overall Fine. A very desirable and rookie year autograph. Comes w/7x9" original glossy NSP dated 9/29/1957. Attached publicity text sheet references "Autograph-Minded Kids Besiege Mays" along with mention that this was the final game for the New York Giants who would move to San Francisco the next season. The game was won by the Pirates 9-1. Reverse has "International News Photos" ink stamp. Lt. aging, VF. Great photo to frame with the autograph. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
