Item Description
18" tall (20.5" tall w/hat) doll by Ideal Novelty & Toy Co. 1939. Complete w/original 1.5x2" tag reading "The Strawman By Ray Bolger Of The Wizard Of Oz" and features Scarecrow illustration. Back features illustration of "Judy Garland As Dorothy In The Wizard Of Oz," the only other doll Ideal made for this film. Tiny moisture spot but o/w Exc. Of the two known versions, this is attired in a black jacket (faded) w/tan trousers. Also has removable black fabric (also faded) hat w/cloth band w/bow tied in it. Jacket features felt squares simulating patches and a cloth belt also tied w/bow at waist. One silk-screened simulated patch is in lower bottom right corner of jacket, around neck is yarn tied to simulate rope. Yarn/rope is also around each ankle. Interesting feature is yarn set to resemble straw poking from loose part of doll's costume and from under hat to resemble hair. Silk-screened simulated patches on each knee. Facial features were painted on. Face has even but moderate aging. Fine overall. Spectacular, rare item that would be a great addition to any Oz collection. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
