Item Description
In 1922, as per the previous campaign button, Truman won election as County Judge for eastern Jackson County. He was not re-elected in 1924 but did win election as Presiding Judge in 1926. He served in this position for eight years dividing his time between two Jackson County courthouses: one in Independence and the other in Kansas City. In 1933, as Presiding Judge of Jackson County, Truman took intense personal interest in the expansion and redesign of the original 1827 historic courthouse on the square in Independence. His interest was so intense that the building became known as "Truman's Courthouse." The courthouse still houses Truman's original office and courtroom. This 1.75" button has small inset photo of the original courthouse with "1827" date. The larger photo with small date caption "1933" has text reading "Jackson County Courthouse Dedication." Back paper and curl both name Kansas City maker "Badge Button & Nov. Co." In our photo lower right edge has small 1/8" dark mark that proved to be dirt which has now been removed. The button is NM displaying Mint. A very rare issue probably used on a single day in 1933.
