Item Description
Lot consists of eight thin artboards measuring 10.5x16" and features original pen and ink art by noted war comic book artist Sam Glanzman. Offered here is the complete original art for the "Wars Never Change" story that was printed in "G.I. Combat" #221 published by DC Comics in Sept. 1980. Issue was written by Robert Kanigher w/interior art by Glanzman. "The Haunted Tank" was a feature that first appeared in "G.I. Combat" in May 1961 and ran through 1987. The feature centers on the ghost of 19th century Confederate General Jeb Stuart who is sent by the spirit of Alexander the Great to act as a guardian over his two namesakes, Lt. Jeb Stuart and the "Light Tank M3 Stuart" that he commands. "The Haunted Tank" was often the cover feature of "G.I. Combat" and was second only to "Sgt. Rock" as DC Comics' longest running war series. "The Haunted Tank" logo is a standard photostat, o/w story art and text is all hand-done. Story details The Haunted Tank coming under fire from the Germans while being transported across the Aegean Sea, as the ghost of General Jeb Stuart and Attila the Hun clash. Modern day Jeb Stuart swims to shore and w/the help of General Stuart, succeeds in defeating the Germans to allow a damaged American bomber to land. The ghost of Jeb Stuart appears in total of five panels while The Haunted Tank appears in total of six panels. Pages have inked/penciled editorial notations at margins. First and fifth pages have .5" upper right corner clips, but these issues do not affect art or text in any way. Scattered handling wear and white correctional fluid touch-ups, but Exc. overall.
