Item Description
c. 1930s-1950s. Thin art boards have image areas ranging from 4.5x21” to 5x16.75”. Storylines have Cap Stubbs explaining why Ethel gave him a bad haircut as Tippie hides under couch, planting garden seeds w/Grandma as Tippie watches, carrying bag of broken dishes w/friend and Tippie. All are signed in ink by creator “Edwina”, complete w/George Matthew Adams Service stickers. Cap Stubbs is in nine panels, Tippie is in 13 panels. Two later examples have horizontal blue pencil crop line through center, easily erased. Garden example is missing first paste-up word balloon leaving tan mark on text. Overall Fine/VF. Edwina Dumm (1893-1990) became the nations first full time female editorial cartoonist in WWI. Her love of dogs is apparent in the “Cap Stubbs and Tippie” series which ran for several decades. Well drawn examples by a true female pioneer.
