Item Description
Ring is from 1941, produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island, offered as a premium for Superman Defense Club milk program costing two bottle caps and 10¢. In Hake's Pop Culture Memorabilia 2008 Price Guide only ten examples were known with four in Good, five in Fine, and one in Very Fine. Since 2008 we offered two NM examples. Ring sides have a star and a planet design. Ring top has brass snap off cover with the letter "S" at upper left and a diagonal lightning bolt plus well-struck image of Superman from the waist up breaking a chain across his chest depicted at lower right. The bands on the ring are perfectly formed. Most luster loss on this ring is essentially microscopic in nature. To the unaided eye, there is just a little off the .25" end of the outer prong. All other loss is in the form of tiny dots, not in concentrated areas. Even viewed very closely most loss takes a magnifier to be revealed. We estimate well over 90% luster remains and the ring still displays Mint.
