Item Description
8x10" original glossy photo c. 1940 featuring a gathering of Negro League greats who are aboard a ship and all are dressed in dapper attire of suits and hats. Each has been identified by inked name which appears to the left of each standing in back row and over the images themselves of those seated in front. Those written over the images mostly blend w/their dark suits and can only be seen in reflected light. Shown are Raymond Brown, Terris McDuffie, Buck Leonard, Johnnie Hayes, Ray Dandridge, Dick Seay, Leon Day, Frank Duncan, Vic Harris and four others identified as "Stone, Jones, Lewis, Saddler." Reverse has some markings including a publication reduction notation. Front bottom margin has a .5x3" white sticker applied but this in no way affects the image. Photo has all over handling wear w/creases and 1" tear at right center margin. Good photo remains glossy w/bold and distinct image. An incredible image and a historic gathering that includes four HOF members. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
