Item Description
14x22" stiff cardboard for 1977 Broadway production of Bram Stoker"s classic vampire tale which starred Frank Langella, who later starred in the 1979 film adaptation. However, for the 1977 Broadway production, the set and costume design was by famous illustrator Edward Gorey. Gorey's attention to detail is more than evident in the production's poster which features a bat-winged Count Dracula looming over female victim and trio of demonic skull-faced cherubs lift cloth to reveal text about production including Martin Beck Theatre address. Gorey’s familiar cross-hatched artwork also includes several bats and large bat-shaped clearing amongst clouds at top of poster which reads "Dracula" as the moon (which has a skull face) shines on. Gorey, who died in 2000, authored over 100 books, drew illustrations for more than 50 other authors and left his own unique stamp on the world of Gothic horror. Scattered aging along top margin and at top corners, this blends somewhat. Light corner tip wear. VF.
