Item Description
3.5x5.75x4.25" tall. c. 1891-1899. John Murray of New York City, NY was issued a design patent for this bank on Oct. 27, 1891. The design is covered by Patent no. 462,150. The bank was made by the Kyser & Rex Company of Frankford, PA. Works. Insert a coin in the slot on the roof and press the chicken's head. The policeman moves toward the chicken thief who slams the door to prevent being caught. This bank has an expertly replaced chicken lever, policeman's club and a small interior lever in the mechanism. All was done years ago by expert bank restoration artist Marc Olimpio, so the work is of the utmost quality, nearly invisible to the naked eye and does not even show under blacklight examination. All original paint shows just small scattered wear but remains 90% complete. Appearance remains Exc. Has original trap. Even with the corrected flaws this is a superb example of a classic and desirable bank. More often than not these banks turn up with rough paint and/or major damage.
