Item Description
Gum, inc. released the classic Lone Ranger gum card set in 1940 (see item #3006) but two years prior to this, after obtaining the license to the Lone Ranger, they produced Lone Ranger bubblegum which was sold from display boxes. First is the countertop display box. 8.25x10.25x2.5" deep. Fantastic lid art of Lone Ranger on rearing Silver w/Tonto portrait at lower right next to 1¢ printed price that appears inside an arrowhead w/text "Heap Big Chew!" Lone Ranger portrait image is repeated on each side panel of box the lid and box bottom along w/name in rope script. Moderate box wear/aging w/some lt. edge and side panel creases. Faint penciled name at top right corner but this blends. One corner split to lid and 1" tear at another corner but o/w tight. Fine. Second is the 7.5x8" insert card which features totally different art from the box of Lone Ranger on Silver along with slightly different inset image of Tonto. Has scored line on bottom third for box insertion with ink-stamped message reading “The Purchaser Of The Last Piece Of Lone Ranger Bubblegum Is To Receive This Beautiful Fly Card. Display It So That They May See It.” Tanning to bottom margin, ft. crease across top margin. Still bright and clean. In our 46 years we have never before offered this box, we have only offered one other of the insert card, which on its own sold for $1,565.
