Item Description
Each cardboard mount is 10.25x12.25" with imprint of photographer "Plummer Seattle". Each has 6-7/8x9-1/8" matte finish photo mounted in center with an unusual cast of characters dressed in various costumes, most with railway names on fronts. One photo has two men dressed as the Yellow Kid. One has text for "Oregon Short Line Railroad", and the other has text for "The Big Grande Western Railway". Back of each has pencil date of July 29 1899 for event held at YMCA park. Photo with Yellow Kid costumed men has everyone named on back in ink. Back of the other photo notes these were apparently sold "For Benefit Black Diamond Coal Mine Disaster. $2,873.50 Proceeds Donated". The Ravensdale, Washington coal mine disaster occurred Nov. 16, 1915. Both photos include some baseball equipment in foreground. Margins of photo with Yellow Kid character have a few moisture marks around mount border. Overall mounts Fine/VF, photos sharp and Exc. Interesting pair for display. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
