Item Description
18x24" Strathmore drawing pad spiral bound at top is designed as a mock-up presentation book for potential publication. Front cover has large pressed type lettering including text "Each Comic Page A Pull-Out Print Suitable For Framing!" Inside sheets have a total of 30 different "Merely Margy" Sunday pages with "Joe Prep" toppers. Each page is 15.5x21" from 1929 and 1930. Book was a project proposed by noted comic historian Robert Lesser and Held's widow Margaret Held. Comes with four typewritten and one handwritten letter from her sent between January 27 and March 30, 1977. One is a proposed foreword to the book which she wrote. Presentation book has curling to pages from Sunday strips being glued in place. Three letters are glued onto poster board. Proposed foreword has pieces gone at right side but all text and signature are present. This sheet is glued to bottom of second letter. Good/VG overall. Despite problems, a one of a kind incredible archive for an important jazz age cartoonist noted for creating the seminal image of the flapper.
