Item Description
These four pieces are all to Harry McLaughlin, future newsman, while still a student reporter for his high school paper the York High Weekly in 1937. First is 2.5x4.25" snapshot of McLaughlin and Farley shaking hands. Second is 8x10" inscribed "To Harry McLaughlin/Sincerely James A. Farley/Post Master General." McLaughlin wrote on lower margin "Small pic. here" Photo has corner tack holes, seven pieces of masking tape on reverse and 2" area of surface paper off reverse. Still displays well. First letter on 7x8.5" stationery embossed with "Post Office Department 1" logo is from May 14, 1937. Farley thanks Harry for an enjoyable interview while in York. Numerous tape stains on reverse and bits of album paper residue. Second letter 8.5x11" is from 6/9/37. Farley thanks Harry for snapshot and promises to sign a photo for him. Scattered marks plus reverse same as first letter. Third letter 7x8.75" also with postal seal is a thank you signed "Jim." Nine album residue spots on reverse. From the Harry McLaughlin Collection.
