Item Description
Date stamped on reverse "N.E.A. Apr 18 1925". 8x10" glossy shows manager Tris Speaker in uniform on field with young African American boy standing next to him holding bow and arrow as crowd in stands looks on. Paper caption on reverse includes text "Opening Of New $125,000 Athletic Field At Lakeland, Florida, Their Training Camp. Hamp Posed With Manager Tris Speaker After His Presentation To The Club." Noting Commissioner Kenesaw Landis was in attendance and the dedication was held March 17. Reverse also has ink stamp from "John L. Morris Lakeland Chamber Of Commerce". Photo has lt. handling creases, mostly just visible in reflected light, and small tear at lower right side edge. Fine. Outrageous concept by today's standards. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
