Item Description
First is a 2-3/8" tall pocket mirror with text below the image "La Grande Roue." Surface is covered with tan dots but the image remains totally clear with gloss on the celluloid. This wheel was built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. The cars on the wheel were so large that they were later recycled as homes for French families in regions devastated by World War I. With the mirror comes a 1.5" beautiful real photo button with an elaborate ornate back paper picturing flowers surrounding center text "Harvey Photo-Button 219 State St. Chicago." The photographic image of the gigantic wheel appears to match that on the mirror but given the USA back paper this could be a photo of the wheel at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition. In either case a wonderful high quality crystal clear depiction of the monster wheel towering over the surrounding building rooftops. Condition of this is NM with just a trivial 1/8" cello split by the collet on the reverse. Only example we've seen.
