Item Description
14x16.75" graphite pencil sketch on layout bond. Professionally framed to 17x20". Depicts Alex Ross's Batman from the acclaimed 1996 mini-series "Kingdom Come" that Ross created with Mark Waid. Ross's Batman character of the future, battle-worn and aged, wears the armored costume depicted in the sketch. Rare art from the original series with the final design for Batman's costume shown only in the last issue. The story which pitted youth against experience and sought to describe what defines a hero as DC Comics flagship characters - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and others - fought against a new, caustic generation of heroes and villains in a battle to determine the future of the planet. In 2004, DC compiled the coffee table book Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross, written and designed by Chip Kidd. Alex Ross's numerous awards include a 1997 Will Eisner Award and two nominations for Kingdom Come and a 1998 National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Award for Superman: Peace on Earth. One of a kind item. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire and is featured in his book "Mythology".
