14 3/8x21.5" gold painted wood frame has an 11.5x17.5" opening revealing well executed oil painting on canvas showing young street urchin smoking cigarette seated in alley wearing boots with shoe polish brush nearby. Art is signed at lower left “J. W. Brown-“. c.1880s. Signature area has a few tiny scuffs and gold color on frame is a bit worn in a few places, otherwise painting has Near Exc. appearance. Appears to be done by an American artist but we have no other information.
