Item Description
2-13/16" tall with covered metal back and fixed horizontal bar pin, the style in use in the 1920s era. As noted in Hake's 2004 Revised Prices this button is pictured in the APIC "Brummagem" project as probably from a presidential set. However, as stated in 2004 we doubt the existence of such a set. In the APIC publication's photo shown are McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt and Wilson ovals along with the Harding and Coolidge ovals we are offering here as items 300-301. As is obvious from the photo the three earlier presidents have their portraits on a white background where as Harding and Coolidge portraits are on a brown tone bkg. The Harding and Coolidge ovals are also a slightly smaller size. The APIC project came out in 1985. Since that time we've not seen reported nor personally seen any other large oval buttons showing a president that could possibly be part of what was proposed as a "set." We conclude that such a "set" does not exist. We feel this Harding is a 1920 campaign item and that the following Coolidge was issued as a mate. The Harding has $450 value in Hake's 2004 Revised Prices. Condition is essentially Mint. Rare. We've seen only two examples over the years.
