Item Description
March 1962. Art is for second page of story "On The Trail Of The Witch!" written by Stan Lee, penciled by Jack Kirby, and inked by Dick Ayers. 13.5x22-5/8" thin art board has 12.5x18.5" India ink image area with nine panels has storyline of woman wearing cloak hiding in cave as cloaked figure approaches through fog. Story has flashback with villagers seeing witch flying through sky every month during the full moon and telling the inspector who says "Wherever She Hides, I Shall Find Her! The Sorceress Does Not Live Who Can Escape From Me!" as he tweaks his mustache. Story would go on to show that the woman was actually the witch and that the inspector is actually a warlock. Story was reprinted in the first issue of "Beware!" as the third story. Page has trace of lt. dust soil here and there and word balloon in panel eight has a bit of white out as corrected by the original letterer. Image area will mat and frame to near Exc. appearance. Comes with Fine copy of "Beware!" comic book #1. Extremely well done art with nice use of light and shadow. Obviously one of Jack Kirby's better stories as it ran twice.
