Item Description
Each art board has an India ink image area of 6-3/8x21.25". The storyline is about do-gooder Mr. Holiday and his young assistant Rod O'Keef and their concern about the state of holidays. Mr. Holiday bears a strong resemblance to Santa Claus. October 17, 1950 art has Mr. Holiday sending Rod and his girlfriend, Mistletoe, to visit heart broken prospectors, December 11, 1950 has a Mr. Plat visiting Santa Claus at the North Pole and January 17, 1951 example has storyline involving a shortage of men and government rationing males. Each original has applied small art pallet-style sticker with text "Fran Matera Chad Kelly" and Fran Matera has signed each strip in ballpoint pen at upper left blank top margin. Art boards are a bit yellowed with age and have trace of lt. dust soil here and there, third strip has a few moisture marks in image area. Overall group has near Fine appearance. The strip was short-lived and just ran in 1950 and early 1951. Matera began his career with Quality Comics in WWII, went in the service and went on to assist Alfred Andriola on Kerry Drake then did the Dickie Dare comic strip from 1947 to 1949, worked on Little Annie Rooney in 1951, Nero Wolfe from 1956 to 1965 and also worked on Rex Morgan, Indiana Jones, and Bruce Lee comic book strips. He also worked for 20 years on Steve Roper and Mike Nomad. Wonderful examples of Matera's art.
