Item Description
In 1966 Burry Biscuit of Chicago, Illinois (a division of Quaker Oats Co.) launched a campaign offering the Aurora Batmobile model via their cookie products. This was then brought back in 1969 and that is when this box dates from. This item is from the estate of commercial artist Ed Margolis who was an integral part of the Burry's Batman campaign, creating the packaging and store display. He worked in suburban Chicago, and for 32 years owned his own design business called Emar Studio. Box consists of a plain cardboard interior "Dummy" box w/an outer slip cover that has four illustrated panels. No model is included. The cardboard box remains sealed by original tape strips but is split open vertically at the center. However, for intended purpose of insert form only for the slip cover, this has no affect on appearance for display. Front panel of cover has great image of Batman & Robin w/the Batmobile. Text includes "Wow! Burry's Presents The Official Batman Batmobile/Here's The Cookie Sales Vehicle That Passes 'Em All In Popularity/Exciting Premium Offer." Additional text notes the model was available free w/six box tops from Burry's cookie products, or for three tops and 50 cents. Back panel features the "9 Foot 3-Dimensional Display (Including Pole Topper)" and a shelf talker sign. Text notes the display could be awarded as a prize after the promotion ended "Be A Hero To The Kids!" One side panel reads "Holy Profits" and lists cookie products. Other side panel includes Batmobile image w/Aurora text and text on the return of this campaign "Burry Rides Again With The Batmobile/Most Successful Premium In Burry's History! And Now It's Back-For Even Bigger Sales Results!" This box was used by salesmen to encourage store owners to increase their orders and reap the rewards of this campaign. Slip cover has very slight fade to top and one side panel. Moderate edge wear with 1" split at top right corner and 2" split at bottom right corner. Remains bright and glossy. Fine. Also included is a 2x8" cardboard side panel from a cookie box which features ad for the model and has order blank. Panel has image of Batman and Batmobile. Neatly trimmed. VF. The only example we have offered in our 45 years. From the Saul Ferris Collection.
