Item Description
August 1981. Each art board is approx. 10.5x15.5" with layouts by Dick Ayers and India ink art by Sam Glanzman. Story is titled "Journey To Distant Death!/Battle Of A Thousand Hands". Images include wonderful battle scene in the China-Burma jungles including wonderful 2-page spread. "The Haunted Tank" logo is a standard paste up, o/w all art and lettering is hand done. Exc. Wonderful examples of Ayers pencils and Glanzman inks. A 12-page story for issue #208 from 1978 sold for $1434 in 2009. The Haunted Tank is a feature that first appeared in GI Combat in May 1961 and ran through 1987. The feature centers on the ghost of 19th century confederate general Jeb Stuart who is sent by the spirit of Alexander the Great to act as a guardian over his two name sakes, Lieut. Jeb Stuart and the "Light Tank M3 Stuart" that Jeb commands. The Haunted Tank was often the cover feature of GI Combat and was second only to Sgt. Rock as DC Comics longest running war series.
