Item Description
1-11/16x2-5/16" silvered brass plate customized to serve as a belt or sash buckle. The Declaration of Independence date "1776" is above and the Centennial celebration date "1876" is below. The ferrotype is 7/8" dia. held within recessed center area by two tabs on the reverse. His forehead has 1/16" dark dot and at far right edge there is an emulsion flake just over 1/16". The cut-out areas are a bit irregular and consist of an opening at the left where the fabric would be anchored and a narrower longer slot at right where a clasp would anchor. A rarity both as a Centennial artifact and as a commemorative ferrotype of our first president. Morry Greener Collection.
