Item Description
Three items. Letter is 8.5x11" typewritten dated May 11, 1964 to a promising writer apologizing for a delay in answering. Text includes "Since I Do (Roughly) A Comic Book A Week And In Addition, About Four Or Five Novels A Year, You Can Perhaps Realize I Am Not Frittering Away My Time. The Appearance Of My First Novel "The Borgia Blade" Was One Of My Distinctly Pleasurable Moments. Winning The Alley Awards A Number Of Times Was Another. And I Must Admit I Always Get A Big Charge (Still, After All The Years) Out Of Seeing A Comic Script Appear In Its Finished Stage In A Newly Issued Book". Letter is signed in ink "Gar Fox". Comes with 3-3/8x5.75" embossed card signed boldly in black ink "Gardner F. Fox" and actual printed cover to "The Atom" comic book #12 from 1964. Comic book cover has some lt. creasing, letter and signed card are Exc. Fox (1911-1986) wrote some 4,000 comic book stories. He began his career under Vin Sullivan at DC Comics in the 1930s and co-created the character of the Sandman, worked on the evolution of Batman including the utility belt, batarang and the batgyro, wrote the first three stories of "The Flash" and created Hawkman. He also wrote westerns for ME comics including Straight Arrow and the Durango Kid and also created the first superhero team The Justice Society of America. Items would make a great display if framed together. Comes with Hake's COA.
